Nice To Meet You, I’m Rowan

Hello, my name is Rowan Gipe and I’m a junior in industrial design at Cedarville University. Professionally my skillset lies in 3D modeling and rendering, but I’m actively working to increase my areas of expertise.

In my free time I enjoy messing around with technology, working on my car, and playing bass. I draw from my experience with the mechanical and assembly side of production to create ideas that work better for the people on the floor and are more efficient. With this experience in combination with my artistic ability, my goal is to bring ideas from concept to reality as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Product design project

Project Brief

Create a product to help individuals remain cleanly even though they are busy, while adapting the product to contain the brand language of an established company.

moodboard

Before anything could be done, I first needed to choose a brand and establish brand language that I needed to follow.

Ideation

Pages of quick ideation sketches created with the intent of exploring as many ideas in as short of an amount of time as possible

Refinement

3 ideas selected from the ideation pages, and further fleshed out in cleaner sketches

Second Ideation

More pages of ideation after refinement, meant to further nail down the details of the selected ideas

Hack Model

Created a rough model to give physical form to my selected ideas, and further refine them to fit human proportions

Final Render

Ultimately I ended up choosing to flesh out a concept of a Kirby bag, which could be thrown in the corner of a room and become a decoration rather than clutter. This would decrease the frequency that cleaning is needed, and make organization easier.

Fan Design Project

Design a handheld fan that accommodates 95th and 5th percentile hand sizes, adapting to the brand language of an existing brand.

2025 spring art exhibition

Best in illustration

This is my submission for the 2024 Cedarville Spring Art Exhibition, which won best in illustration, titled “Sashimi makes Sashimi”. My inspiration was my upcoming trip to Japan that I would be taking over the summer, as well as the fact that I was beginning to learn Japanese.

Thank You!
